Everyday the pain travels farther
i now cry tears like a martyr
my voice has become stronger
anything God makes Satan can never put asunder
The strength you birthed in me
the 8th wonder
all women are as strong as a tea bag in hot water

yes i kept the whole truth
from you
only to keep our love as forceful as crazy glue
i didn’t want the remnant of pity and sorrow
to emanate from your soul windows
i wanted happiness to radiate
being something you continue to marinate
not the pain i endured
through my soul and spirit’s rape…

After much pressuring from Godsent, I finally was able to attend Verses Open Mic. I was filled with excitement before it started until after the warm up game. I having a great time playing with Godsent’s beautifully goregous nena, Joy, was expecting this excitement to continue throughout a God and Jesus focused open mic.
Although it was also a birthday party, it was still a heavenly filled night by those who performed. My favorite though was the StreetHipHop Ministry with Cypha IX… he really knew how to command a room and bless the stage. I was inspired to write more performable religious spoken word. Unfortunately, I dont think many people were there for the right reasons…

Don’t just stand and stare and don’t move… you knew where you were going so act like it. Worship and praise the lord through art and music… don’t act like a rock… be an audience..

Replenishing Rain in the Park

So last night was “AzÃºcar @ Park 33 ” and the rain just kept on coming… it died down as we reached the venue…For some reason me and the weather have a love hate relationship. There is always something going on that thins the crowd… first it was snow when i had to reschedule my Brooklyn show and now it’s rain and thunderstorms. But how i have to look at it is..Those that are supposed to be here are here and those that aren’t most definitely are missing out on a blessing!

Dana Reeves also came. He told me he come straight from Delaware! Delaware! That really is support. I love him for that! He told everyone about what he does and his events. I love driven people like him!

Last night was such a great night even though we were few in #. You gotta learn to do you despite what Satan and the world try and throw at you.

DÃa de los Muertos 2011

Although I don’t celebrate Halloween, I love celebrating DÃa de los Muertos! Tonight I will be with Coalition for Latino/a Scholars and the Chicano Caucus honoring those that have passed on… I am so excited to read “Bristle Blessings” as a “calaverita” to honor one of my great teachers as she passed away this summer! “Bristle Blessings” will be featured in one of my next projects, “Ode to My Penmakers”. Be on the Look out for that!

Cafe Shebach

oh-my-goodness! last night was crazy! church on a Friday night at an open mic at Cafe Shebach in Newark! Who knew those existed?

It’s kinda like… where have you been all my life? I had so much fun praising the Lord and reading my religious poetry… I finally had the leap of faith to read “thought it not robbery” out loud. Check out “My journey through Poetry” to read it.

Shandon was amazing with his piano…. I’m telling you his fingers are annointed. Lady Eclectic was always powerful and GodSent was at home…

We took over the Cafe with an impromptu jam session. It was crazy! I wish I took pictures… I will definitely have to get those pictures next time I visit… when I do, you will be the first to see them.

PACE Eye Opener

This morning, I spoke at the Program for the Acceleration of Careers in Engineering (PACE). The presentation was “Channeling Negative Energy into Positive Outcomes”. I will post some of the slides on the website soon. I was able to telegraph how “My Journey through Poetry” came into being and the importance of an anti-bullying attitude. I also told the teenagers about how to channel the negativity that is often thrown at them into fuel and ammunition to be dreamers.

The presentation was a hit. So many questions, so much participation! I love to impact the lives of youth and help make their lights/dreams brighter!

St Agnes’ Guild

This afternoon, I was blessed to perform at the Annual Luncheon for St. Agnes Guild at the Riverview Pavilion. It was a fun luncheon with music and prizes. I was inspired by the youth that performed with their own religious songs. It was a great atmosphere to give reference to the Lord and to raise money to keep spreading the Word.

I was able to sell some my books there and inspire the Guild by performing some poems from “My Journey through Poetry”.

New Light Baptist Back 2 School

I was asked last month to go to New Light Baptist church to help out with their Back to School Night and I jumped at the chance to help out.
After hearing an anti-bullying seminar, I definitely knew I was in the right place. After talking to some parents to help remind them of the development of their teenagers, I talked to the elementary kids under the theme of “Don’t count me out/ Look at me now”. I then engaged them in a conversation about how to combat bullying. Although the children were young, they were very insightful… which continues to prove my motto:

1 Tim 4: 12 – “Donâ€™t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.”

Later on in the festivites, I read some poetry and continued to inspire. The church was a great audience!
