why does this threesum always exist
to create the sickest and illest cacophony on the art scene
when i don’t need assistance being me
i create my existance
through phrases, lines and stanzas
Drugs & creative consciousness
Such a common partnership
I begin to wonder
if creativity was never God’s gift
But a seed to be watered
by temple damaging magic pills
liquids that get you lifted
and awkward concoctions
to get you wired

i thrive
in substance free creativity
haze is not what my bars crave
chemicals are not what i need
to make my trills and runs stay
in your ears to marinate

all i need
is
me
a god given message
a heart for delivery
a mode and method for my soul to speak
and lines on a page that are not afraid to get dirty

is my free flowing proclivity
for poet speak
such a rarity
i have become the minority
the naturally unnatural of mercenaries
called to bring peace and harmony
to the country
destined to succeed in world unity
completely substance free
while dispersing my projects
for all to eat and digest
resulting in a changed mission and personality
to be change we want to see
exude the positivity
our youth yearns to be
so our legacy
stretches form sea to sea
hilltop to mountain peak
resting when all are unafraid to accomplish their dreams
listening to their souls preach
through unadulterated creativity
tell me you see a possibility?
Nothing is impossible when you believe

Did you die your locs
For the freedom
Of the leaves in autumn

Did you miss the evergreens
And their bald transformations

Did you miss turkeys and the itis
Cold winds and family focused holidays

I see you try to follow trends
With strawberry to blonde ombre ends
As streaks to spice up
Your double Chocolate chip brownie thick width strands

Did you miss the pumpkin patches
So you added
A taste in your delicious crown
Of historical roots

Did you die your locs
For the freedom
Of the leaves in autumn

Please tell me
Quell my question
Because my crown
Is curiously wondering

So the curly fry laughing, David Rey Martinez featured tonight at 116… i was laughing at his ridiculousness! We had such a great time especially when Trixze and David performed Juicy (no David WASNT Biggie).Â

Everyone was great tonight, the vibe was crazy. Just take my word for it…. if you been sleeping under a rock and haven’t heard about the Inspired Word NYC movement…. get up and get moving! You are missing some great comedy, storytelling, poetry, spoken word, and rap! A smorgasbord of spectacular-ness!

I performed “Dulce de Leche (meets Chocolate)” to salute David’s alter ego Curtis Lipdown…since it was his post birthday party… all roads led back to David..

I was gonna do a poem for Vigo since he featured too! But time wasn’t on my side… sorry Vigo! Next time i promise. Vigo performed and killed it.. he does “go hard”! If you were there you would know!

Pierre scared me a bit with his “smile at me and you’ll get pregnant” joke and he looked right at me after… DUDE! IM NOT TRYNA HAVE THAT NOW! Lol!

Storm killed it and sang her “hips” off! See again….if you were there! I love her in your face style poetry! She energizes me everytime i am blessed to see her perform…

The other members of david’s group CMD Comedy were heckling him all night! I loved it.. finally someone can deflect post performance heat off me… Chad and Marlena were awesome!

Totally inspired by the words,

So tonight was my 2nd time at the Shrine and “The Gathering” . I fully got my praise on. This is the prefect place to get a battery recharged for the rest of the week. I was so blessed to hear new performers like Meaghan and Chris kill it.

When God gives you a gift and you humbly discover it, the journey to share it is such a special touching life altering experience. For some it happens on stage after much encouragement from others. Your private moment in a public place!

To go along with that feeling I performed new ink from that morning after reading a devotional called “Divine Creation”. I literally finished on the train ride over to the Shrine. My first poem incorporating bible verses! So excited for poetic growth. So we “He Spoke” is fully penned Watch out World!

Embracing my journey!

So i went to the nuyorican last night to support Latinos NYC… Advocate of Words and Rainmaker had me homesick.

Advocate of words blessed my heart reminding me of the enticing rhtymn and love beat of Salsa… making me wish i had my own salsero.

Rainmaker performed an awesome piece about his Grandmother… i could envision the sandy and clear Jamaican beaches as i enjoy my mangoes and my ginep. I miss savoring ocho rios and getting lost in the waterfalls and canopies of fern gully. I cherish the lessons o get from grandma and others no matter how strong their broken patois is..

Raul is Raul… doing his own thing and captivating the audience with his every movement, every syllable. I pray one day i can have that same command.

I love being around likeminded people who have big hearts… it helps remind me that i do belong in this sometimes cold world….

It’s a late Saturday night and I am at the Nuyorican finally after going up to go down on the NYC trains because of construction and track work. Here I am thinking I am late when they haven’t even started. It started an hour after the listed event time… I run into a Columbia classmate, I find my friend who was meeting me there… it all seemed good…
I enjoyed some of the Hip Hop, not all… but I am picky so that is normal. I like old school message music type Hip Hop. I was digging Tang Sauce with his breaking and trumpet and his hip-hop; Jay Vegas with his therapeutic poetry (obviously… because of ); RapOet aka Self Suffice with his everything… his swag and his performance. I also liked the Red headed guy and the girl that hosts “Eargasms” but I don’t remember their names.. but after that things got a little impatient for me…

I like Hip Hop but I cannot stand when your songs don’t really have substance but what you talk about after your set is done is really deep and meaningful. Be 100% all the time… not 50% because you think it won’t be liked or make money… Come on People! That really pissed me off and soured the rest of the night until the open mic.

I don’t know if I’d be back because of my sentiment about being Real and the fact that it started so late.. But I will give them another shot.. I’ll check out the Wednesday show when my schedule frees up.. but no guarantee.

100% real, 100% of the time,
Simone Nikkole pka Azucar
