So I returned to Moca after a brief hiatus to a great welcoming back. But I was truly not prepared for what I was coming into. Thirsty had written a poem about me and performed it in front of everyone. If any of you have heard about Thirsty, you would know how I was feeling… so embarrassing! Normally you would be flattered right… No not me! JP Justice totally ran with it so I buried my face in my hands and deflected it the only way I knew how.. through poetry…. I read some other poetry getting some anger out towards another person in my life who needed to be shut down. “Property” was a great poem to release all of this anger and I felt a lot of women related to it. Thanks for flowing with me.

Next time I go to Moca in two weeks, I will be back to my main form and it will be THE ANNIVERSARY OF “MY JOURNEY THROUGH POETRY” AND THE FORMATION OF Sí.NIK PRODUCTIONS! Party planning is in the works for after the holidays… check back here for more information after New Years!

Only at Moca!

Man oh man…. why do I keep going back to Moca’s? I know what I am gonna get… i’mma be uncomfortable for a few minutes and then people are going to kill the mic with verbal artistry very sensuously or erotically… sometimes the raunchiness creeps in but I can find beauty in everything.. RIGHT? Tuesday though I was pleasantly surprised… I often leave early because I usually have papers or client notes to write for class (yes, I still go to school folks… Grad school at Columbia University…) so I miss these guys but I am glad that the order switched up tonight… D-Black and Eric were crazy! I was like thank the Lord I hear some diversity.. some heavy things being spit… some knowledge being dropped on the Moca stage… it was so refreshing to hear them, I yelled at Mac for keeping them from me…usually after I left, they would perform…

Nov 1st… Busy way to start the month!

So tonight I went to see “being elmo” after class and then to Moca’s afterward to read some poetry… I was in a great mood after watching “being elmo”. Other than the fact that I love Elmo, I was loving how inspiration that documentary was… After that I loved Elmo more… I couldn’t believe that Sesame Street was first introduced to “Love” when Kevin took over the job of solo puppeteer for Elmo. I related to the journey of following your dreams no matter how outlandish it might sound to other people… it doesn’t matter; it’s about what your heart says. Once I have my own place, I am buying every Elmo thing that I don’t already own…

I went to Moca’s in such I good mood that I wanted to try something different… I read the poems that were love poems driven by anger… “Animalistic” was so hard to read but I could see they were hanging on to my every word… I wanted to read “Property” but I thought one angry poem was enough so I re-read “Evaporate”… that seemed to be everyone’s favorite.. I love it too so I can’t be mad… but my muse will never know… You can check out “evaporate” in Enhance Magazine pages 6 &7. Third time’s a charm

So I went to Moca last night. It was good as always, JP Justice was funny as ever… although some of the poetry can be uncomfortable, I believe that the poets have a gift of expression. It takes a lot of courage to stand at the Moca mic and read whatever you have whether it be erotic poetry, political poetry, or sensual poetry. I am glad they accept everyone no matter where there talent is. It is nice to know that there is a poetic family with a slightly different market than my own that I can be comfortable and real with! Mona is always one of my favorite… Blue did his thing too… No matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to understand Thirsty… he’s on a level that I would not like to visit… Come to Moca and you’ll see, (He’s always first). I should hit up Moca again in Two WEEKS! NOVEMBER 1ST. Remember if you want a sneak peak of the pieces that I am working on for my next project, “TO love Azúcar”, you can hear them exclusively @ Moca Bar and Lounge Every other Tuesday Night!

More Azúcar Morena at Moca tonight! It was so much fun. We had some new artists such as Singer Marcus Allen! I loved his sweet sound… hopefully he can perform at my Showcase in October…

“Thirsty” was ridiculous! JP Justice is always funny. He also speaks the truth! Especially about President Obama… But my secret favorite is “Blue”! (Not so secret anymore! lol) He is so conscious with his pieces despite all the erotic and raunchy pieces that others have. He makes it more comfortable for me to read my sensual work. Another favorite is Mona Bode. I love the confidence and stage presence she has. I like her pieces too; she has a talent with timing and vocabulary. I can’t wait to work with her on an Erotic Poetry CD. So excited! Azúcar making moves!

I performed just English pieces from “T.O. Love Azúcar”. I am learning I have to command the stage a bit more so that they are hanging on every word… I’m gonna try something different when I go back on the 18th…I’ll let you know if it works..

Last night I was at Moca as their new artist… Matt couldn’t pronounce my name but it’s ok… He’ll have practice..

I read one of my favorites to start off.. “The addiction”. It was on my Xanga, if you were following me there. Afterward since we had a bilingual crowd, I read “Infection” (the original version in Spanish). “Infection” will also be featured in “T.O. Love Azúcar”. In fact, all the poems I read at Moca will be featured in that chapbook series. So come out and get a glimpse of the work that you would see in my next upcoming project!

One of the connections I made at the Back to School picnic was DJ Mario. Check him out on facebook! He’s great. He DJ’s at Moca Bar and Lounge in Harlem… So tomorrow I will check it out.

They host Erotic Poetry Open Mics on Tuesday nights. So every other Tuesday I will go there and read some of my “erotic” poetry… my writing is not really “erotic”; it’s more Sensual Poetry…
“Azucar Morena” is my other poet pen name that embodies all that is sensual and loving about Simone Nikkole.

Aqua: Adult Relaxation

Last night, I performed at “Adult Relaxation” at Aqua in Asbury. It was a great open mic. I had fun but sometimes the crowd was rude. The event is as advertized and people cannot quiet down to hear the words and music coming from people’s hearts.

Pictures are coming soon. Although I was inspired by the work that was shown and made great connections, I don’t know if I’d be back if the crowd can’t be respectful.

Open Mic In Hazlet

So I cannot believe how much spoken word is in my other hometown of Hazlet. I really enjoyed myself last night. Unfortunately, I couldn’t go to the diner with everyone because my phone died. ::sadness:: However, the open mic was very good. Different styles, different approaches; I loved it all. It was my second time featuring and I was priviledged to feature with Mark Barnett. He adds sense of humor to his pieces on anything and everything. I loved it. He brought his team and they killed it too! I read from “my journey thought poetry” and continued to debut “Azúcar Morena”. She was a bit scandalous for some but loved by others. You can’t win them all.

I was blown away and filled with joy with how many of my friends and family came out to support. My neighbors, church members, frat brothers, friends and new supporters were out in full force. Words cannot express how thankful I am to see everyone out and enjoying the poetry. So thankful for Ms. Patty for introducing me… I really might hire her; she has a way with words and she is a great support. A big thank you to my Frat Brothers Amanda and Rebecca who came from far to see me read! P***** Ladies!

I made a lot of connections and have more venues to attend. So excited to get started with that. I think September would be the best time to start especially since I want the other Avengers to join me.

Dog Days of August

I had so much fun at HLS Restaurant last night. I love being around budding talent and passionate people. The Avengers are making waves. Despite the rain, we were able to inspire each other to keep writing. We had a newcomer to the stage last night to the HLS stage, Lizzie Martinez. Although she was a little hesitant, her words were so refreshing and perfect together. I loved her poem, “Juxtaposition”. Just as the title would suggest, the stanzas had lines that painted a picture of opposites that flowed together and created a syncopation that was soothing and intense. I hope the two of us can work together. Her honesty is a breath of fresh air.

Mila aka “Lady Eclectic” always has something powerful to say. I loved all of her pieces as usual. G-$moov never ceases to amaze me. His ability to write from different perspectives is such a gift. He challenges himself so much and I admire that. Shea was funny as usual but still sentimental at that same time. Carlton was funny too but I’m glad he led us with a true story. Randall shocked us all with a song…. I’m dead serious; He will be singing “Flaws and All” at my wedding… the only way he can get out of it is if Beyoncé agrees to sing it herself. Then he had to go on an announce his project, Baroque Phoenix. Another Organization I will gladly support!

I was so happy to finally hear McIntyre read his work. There has been so much hype around his verbal gymnastics that I was jumping out of my skin to hear him when I saw him walk into HLS. He too, like Lizzie, was candid and intense. He has a way with words and an art with vocabulary that amazes me. I am not sure if he saw my jaw on the floor as blessed the airwaves with the ink from his Blackberry. I am a Blackberry Poet too so I understand the soothing buttons of the keyboard.

Since I was inspired by the other Avengers, I decided to unveil Azúcar Morena and some work from my next book, T.O. Love Azúcar Morena. Everyone loved her, others preferred her but she and Simone Nikkole are both Me.
