Jazz and Poetry Night Affair

Last night, it was Mila’s Birthday and she planned a Jazz and Poetry night at Montclair State University with Alpha Kappa Psi. It was such a great event. Great talent of all kinds… I hope I can get some of these great artists for my showcase in a few weeks…. I loved performing and getting inspiration from other performers. There was the A.V.E.N.G.E.R.S.(Articulating Verbal Expressions Naturally Giving Everything Rightful Sentencing) crew in the building and Si.Nik Productions artists… Everyone working together to bring forth boundless art.

Shout outs to PureMusiq who killed it with the music for the night!

Take 2 @ Moca

More Azúcar Morena at Moca tonight! It was so much fun. We had some new artists such as Singer Marcus Allen! I loved his sweet sound… hopefully he can perform at my Showcase in October…

“Thirsty” was ridiculous! JP Justice is always funny. He also speaks the truth! Especially about President Obama… But my secret favorite is “Blue”! (Not so secret anymore! lol) He is so conscious with his pieces despite all the erotic and raunchy pieces that others have. He makes it more comfortable for me to read my sensual work. Another favorite is Mona Bode. I love the confidence and stage presence she has. I like her pieces too; she has a talent with timing and vocabulary. I can’t wait to work with her on an Erotic Poetry CD. So excited! Azúcar making moves!

I performed just English pieces from “T.O. Love Azúcar”. I am learning I have to command the stage a bit more so that they are hanging on every word… I’m gonna try something different when I go back on the 18th…I’ll let you know if it works..

AINY Art Festival

After my internship, i got wind of an art festival that the hospital does for it’s patients. I couldn’t wait to get in on that. So I helped set up the art show by gathering the art and cataloguing it. Finally I got to perform at the opening ceremonies today. I performed “Broken Angel” and the patients told me that they were touch by the performance. Music to my ears.

The patients also performed and touched me more than they realize. It is both a blessing and a curse that great art comes from struggle. But it is a great inspiration for all that can witness it.

St Agnes’ Guild

This afternoon, I was blessed to perform at the Annual Luncheon for St. Agnes Guild at the Riverview Pavilion. It was a fun luncheon with music and prizes. I was inspired by the youth that performed with their own religious songs. It was a great atmosphere to give reference to the Lord and to raise money to keep spreading the Word.

I was able to sell some my books there and inspire the Guild by performing some poems from “My Journey through Poetry”.

Back to School Fun in Bx

I went to Joyce Kilmer park yesterday and performed for a “Back to School” event. I loved it. The children were so receptive and had so much fun preparing for school. I read a new piece called “Make Room” inspired by the movie “The Help” and “Shine” by John Legend and the Roots. The poem will be featured in the second volume of “My Journey through Poetry: a teenage catharsis”. I also previewed a poem from my next series of chapbooks, “T.O. love, Azucar.”

I made some great connections and plan to grow my business with the help of these great artists.

Dog Days of August

I had so much fun at HLS Restaurant last night. I love being around budding talent and passionate people. The Avengers are making waves. Despite the rain, we were able to inspire each other to keep writing. We had a newcomer to the stage last night to the HLS stage, Lizzie Martinez. Although she was a little hesitant, her words were so refreshing and perfect together. I loved her poem, “Juxtaposition”. Just as the title would suggest, the stanzas had lines that painted a picture of opposites that flowed together and created a syncopation that was soothing and intense. I hope the two of us can work together. Her honesty is a breath of fresh air.

Mila aka “Lady Eclectic” always has something powerful to say. I loved all of her pieces as usual. G-$moov never ceases to amaze me. His ability to write from different perspectives is such a gift. He challenges himself so much and I admire that. Shea was funny as usual but still sentimental at that same time. Carlton was funny too but I’m glad he led us with a true story. Randall shocked us all with a song…. I’m dead serious; He will be singing “Flaws and All” at my wedding… the only way he can get out of it is if Beyoncé agrees to sing it herself. Then he had to go on an announce his project, Baroque Phoenix. Another Organization I will gladly support!

I was so happy to finally hear McIntyre read his work. There has been so much hype around his verbal gymnastics that I was jumping out of my skin to hear him when I saw him walk into HLS. He too, like Lizzie, was candid and intense. He has a way with words and an art with vocabulary that amazes me. I am not sure if he saw my jaw on the floor as blessed the airwaves with the ink from his Blackberry. I am a Blackberry Poet too so I understand the soothing buttons of the keyboard.

Since I was inspired by the other Avengers, I decided to unveil Azúcar Morena and some work from my next book, T.O. Love Azúcar Morena. Everyone loved her, others preferred her but she and Simone Nikkole are both Me.

Delta’s New Brunswick

I went to Delta’s Restaurant and had a small book signing. The resaurant was packed with people supporting another event. Despite that traffic I was still able to sell some books and help a man surprise his wife with a gift.

The food was good and the music was right. I really enjoyed myself. This definitely will be a venue that I will revisit in the future.

HLS Juice Bar and Grill

Event one was so successful! the AVENGERS and I were on our game. got the word out for the book. I was blessed by all the performers especially Taalam Acey and Goya Robles. They have amazing gifts and command of the stage. I am forever indebted to those men because the amount of inspiration they gave me is PRICELESS.

I performed the set I was originally going to perform (Virgin Soul, confused, Broken Angel, and Infection). I want to put the video on the website but I have to wait until my computer is fixed. I am still on a high from last night. if you weren’t there, you missed a treat!

finally a visual

I have been working on fine tuning the book lately. My weekends have been packed with visiting NYC and Rochester. In between, I have come up with possible book covers. Hopefully by the end of next week, I can show you the cover in either the MJTP section and/or the marketplace. I’ll keep you posted. Keep checking the website for updates.

cleaning away the dust

I haven’t written a song in a couple of months but recently I was challenged to open that door again. I plan on revisiting the songs I wrote and started writing music for in 2000. Hopefully I can successfully get grinding behind my piano and make some beautiful music that can reach your hearts. I don’t know where my voice will be either in gospel or mainstream. We’ll see. You never know where God might lead me.
